Carl Dean Jr.

Beyond his general counseling responsibilities, Carl teaches three First Year Experience classes that focus on intercultural communication, critical self-reflection, and personal growth.  He encourages students to step out of their comfort zone in order to play an active role in the classroom.  In both his Performance Poetry and Peer Involvement classes, Carl provides an engaging environment for students to work together for a common purpose and learn extensively through hands on experience.  Last year, students in Carl’s Peer Involvement class organized a walk-a-thon in memory of students who passed away during the year.  By fostering involvement both at UConn and in community life, Carl has demonstrated his dedication to both his students and the greater community.
